Country power transition benchmark

Use when an energy investor, policy analyst or corporate sustainability team needs to compare how fast countries are decarbonising their power. Pulls generation by fuel, CO2 by sector and electricity prices from the IEA, adds economic context from the World Bank, and ranks countries on transition speed with each figure sourced.

# Country power transition benchmark

For three to ten countries. ISO3 codes resolved in step 1 key every later query.

## 1. Pick the right datasets

1. Resolve the countries with @[IEA · Countries](alexandria:iea-org/energy/countries), then list free datasets with @[IEA · Datasets](alexandria:iea-org/energy/datasets) (license cc_by). Keep the ids for electricity and heat, CO2 from fuel combustion and energy prices, and check each one's year range with @[IEA · Dataset](alexandria:iea-org/energy/dataset).

## 2. Generation and emissions

2. Pull ElecGenByFuel for the countries with @[IEA · Dataset observations](alexandria:iea-org/energy/data) over the last ten years. Compute the share of wind, solar and hydro and how many points it moved.
3. Pull CO2BySector for the same years and keep the electricity and heat sector. Divide by generation for a rough intensity trend.

## 3. Price and economics

4. Pull household and industry electricity prices from the prices dataset with @[IEA · Dataset observations](alexandria:iea-org/energy/data).
5. Add GDP per capita and electricity access with @[World Bank · Indicator data](alexandria:data-worldbank-org/indicators/data) so richer and poorer systems are not compared blindly.

## Write the benchmark

- **Table:** country, renewable share now and ten years ago, change in points, power-sector CO2 trend, household and industry price.
- **Ranking:** fastest to slowest movers, adjusted for income band.
- **Notes:** datasets with missing years or licence limits, named.
- **Sources:** cite every figure to the capability and record it came from. Say what could not be found rather than guessing.
