MLB hitter regression radar
Use when, mid-season, a fantasy baseball manager, bettor or front-office analyst wants hitters whose results are out of line with their contact quality. Compares actual and expected stats on the leaderboard, confirms with exit velocity and sprint speed, and checks recent form and injuries, returning buy-low and sell-high lists.

# MLB hitter regression radar For the current season. Player ids from step 1 feed every later call. ## 1. Results versus expected 1. Read @[Baseball Savant · Get leaderboard](alexandria:baseballsavant-mlb-com/baseball-statcast/get_leaderboard) (board expected_statistics, player_type batter, qualified). For each hitter compute wOBA minus xwOBA. Large positive gaps are sell-high, large negative gaps are buy-low. ## 2. Is the contact real 2. Read the statcast board for exit velocity and barrel rate. A buy-low hitter with strong barrels is more trustworthy than one with weak contact and bad luck. 3. Read @[Baseball Savant · Get leaderboard](alexandria:baseballsavant-mlb-com/baseball-statcast/get_leaderboard) (board sprint_speed). Fast hitters routinely beat their xBA on grounders, so discount their positive gaps. ## 3. Current form and health 4. For the ten biggest gaps, read the last two weeks with @[Baseball Savant · Get player gamelogs](alexandria:baseballsavant-mlb-com/baseball-statcast/get_player_gamelogs). 5. Check @[ESPN · Injuries](alexandria:espn-com/sports-data/injuries) (baseball, mlb). A playing-through-injury hitter can show a negative gap that will not recover. ## Write the radar - **Buy-low:** hitter, wOBA, xwOBA, gap, barrel rate, sprint speed, recent form. - **Sell-high:** same fields. - **Caveats:** hitters with injuries or extreme speed, flagged. - **Sources:** cite every figure to the capability and record it came from. Say what could not be found rather than guessing.
