BOM second-source check for a hardware build

Use when a hardware team is freezing a bill of materials and needs every critical part to have real stock and a second source before a production run. Reads JLCPCB stock, price breaks and library status for each MPN, finds pin-compatible alternates, and prices off-board items such as enclosures and cables through Alibaba suppliers. Produces a BOM risk table.

# BOM second-source check for a hardware build

For a BOM with manufacturer part numbers and the planned build quantity. The point is to find single-source and low-stock parts while there is still time to swap them.

## 1. Check each board part

1. Read each MPN with @[JLCPCB · Get part](alexandria:jlcpcb-com/electronic-components/get_part): **stock**, **purchase_prices** (quantity breaks), **min_order_qty**, **library_type** (basic parts avoid setup fees), **package**, **attributes** and **related_parts**.
2. Flag parts whose stock is under ten times the build quantity, that are not purchasable, or that are extended-library only.

## 2. Find alternates

3. For each flagged part, search @[JLCPCB · Search parts](alexandria:jlcpcb-com/electronic-components/search_parts) with the category, the same `packages` and the key attribute values from step 1 (`availability` in stock). Keep two candidates with **mpn**, **manufacturer**, **stock** and **datasheet_url**; carry the related parts from step 1 in as candidates too.

## 3. Off-board items

4. Search each enclosure, cable, battery or display with @[Alibaba · Search](alexandria:alibaba/retail/search) and keep offers with **display_price** and **minimum_order_text**.
5. Read the top two sellers with @[Alibaba · Supplier](alexandria:alibaba/retail/supplier): **country**, **years_on_platform**, **on_time_delivery_text** and **response_time_text**.

## Write the risk table

- **Per line:** MPN, stock, price at build quantity, library type, risk (low, watch, single-source), alternates with stock.
- **Swap list:** parts to replace now, with the alternate and what must be checked in the datasheet (pinout, tolerances).
- **Sources:** cite stock and prices to their capability and time; stock moves daily. Say what could not be found rather than guessing.
