Country elevator bid sheet check

Use when a grain merchandiser at a country elevator is setting the daily cash bid and basis for corn or soybeans. Reads nearby and new-crop futures settlements and volume, fund positioning, rainfall in the draw area that affects harvest pace, and diesel prices that drive trucking cost, then explains where basis should sit.

# Country elevator bid sheet check

For one elevator, one crop and today's bid. CME product ids from step 1 carry into settlements and volume.

## 1. The board

1. Find corn or soybean futures with @[CME Group · Product search](alexandria:cmegroup-com/fomc-rate-probabilities/product_search) and read @[CME Group · Futures settlements](alexandria:cmegroup-com/fomc-rate-probabilities/futures_settlements). Note the nearby and new-crop months and the carry between them.
2. Read @[CME Group · Futures volume](alexandria:cmegroup-com/fomc-rate-probabilities/futures_volume) to see which month is most traded.

## 2. Funds

3. Find the market with @[CFTC COT · Markets](alexandria:cftc-gov/commitments-of-traders/markets) and read managed money positions for the last six weeks with @[CFTC COT · Disaggregated futures only](alexandria:cftc-gov/commitments-of-traders/disaggregated_futures_only).

## 3. Farmer selling pace

4. Read @[ACIS · Daily weather history](alexandria:rcc-acis-org/weather-history/daily_weather_history) for the draw area (polygon) over the last 14 days. Rain days slow harvest and deliveries; dry stretches bring a rush.

## 4. Cost to move grain

5. Pull weekly retail diesel for your PADD from route petroleum/pri/gnd with @[EIA · Data](alexandria:eia-gov/energy-data/data).

## Write the bid check

- **Board:** nearby and new-crop settlements, carry, most-traded month.
- **Funds:** net position and direction.
- **Pace:** rain days in the draw area and expected deliveries.
- **Basis view:** wider when deliveries surge or carry is large, narrower when farmers hold; your own bid stays your call.
- **Sources:** cite every figure to the capability and record it came from. Say what could not be found rather than guessing.
