Insurance renewal hazard file for a property manager

Use when a property manager or owner's risk lead is preparing for a property insurance renewal and wants hazard evidence for each building. Reads wildfire risk, the FEMA flood zone from public ArcGIS layers, nearby hurricane tracks from the National Hurricane Center and recent earthquakes from USGS. Produces a per-building hazard sheet to send the broker with the renewal.

# Insurance renewal hazard file for a property manager

For each building's address and coordinates, and the county name.

## 1. Fire and flood

1. Read @[Wildfire Risk to Communities · Wildfire risk for geometry](alexandria:wildfirerisk-org/wildfire-risk/wildfire_risk_for_geometry) at each building and keep the risk class and percentile.
2. Find the county or FEMA flood hazard layer with @[ArcGIS · Search datasets](alexandria:arcgis-com/gis-layers/search_datasets), check field names with @[ArcGIS · Describe layer](alexandria:arcgis-com/gis-layers/describe_layer), then read the zone at each point with @[ArcGIS · Query layer](alexandria:arcgis-com/gis-layers/query_layer) (`point`).

## 2. Wind

3. For coastal portfolios, list recent seasons' storms with @[National Hurricane Center · Season storms](alexandria:nhc-noaa-gov/weather/season_storms) and read @[National Hurricane Center · Best track](alexandria:nhc-noaa-gov/weather/best_track) for any that passed near the buildings. Keep closest approach and intensity.

## 3. Ground shaking

4. Search @[USGS · Search](alexandria:earthquake-usgs-gov/earthquakes/search) around each building for the last ten years above a magnitude the manager picks.

## Write the hazard file

- **Per building:** wildfire class, flood zone code and its meaning, closest storms with year and intensity, notable nearby earthquakes.
- **Mitigation already in place:** a blank column for the manager to fill (roof straps, sprinklers, flood vents), since public data cannot show it.
- **Broker summary:** two or three lines on where the portfolio is better or worse than the rating territory suggests.
- **Sources:** cite each fact to its capability and the layer used. Say which buildings had no flood layer coverage.
