Bank branch closure community impact
Use when a city economic-development office, community-reinvestment officer or bank regulator reviewer wants to know what a bank's branch closures mean for a neighbourhood. Reads FDIC branch history and deposit share, the area's income and vehicle access from Census, and what banking alternatives remain nearby.

# Bank branch closure community impact For one city, ZIP or bank. A closed branch matters most where incomes are low, households lack cars and no other bank is close. ## 1. Find the closures 1. Resolve the bank with @[FDIC · Institutions](alexandria:banks-data-fdic-gov/bank-data/institutions) to get its **cert**. 2. Pull branch events with @[FDIC · History](alexandria:banks-data-fdic-gov/bank-data/history) filtered by cert or state and a date window; keep branch closings with address and date. 3. List remaining offices with @[FDIC · Locations](alexandria:banks-data-fdic-gov/bank-data/locations) for the same city or ZIP, all banks. ## 2. Measure what was lost 4. Read @[FDIC · Deposits](alexandria:banks-data-fdic-gov/bank-data/deposits) for the city or county across the last five years: the closing bank's deposit share and whether competitors gained it. ## 3. Weigh the community 5. Resolve the affected tracts or ZIPs with @[Census · Geographies](alexandria:census-gov/census/geographies) and pull @[Census · Data](alexandria:census-gov/census/data) (acs/acs5) for median household income, share of households with no vehicle and share aged 65 and over. 6. Search @[Maps · Business search](alexandria:firecrawl-maps/businesses/search) near each closed branch for credit unions, other banks and check cashers. Note distances; a check casher as the nearest option is a red flag. ## Write the impact note - **Closures:** branch, address, date, and the bank's remaining offices in the area. - **Market shift:** deposit share before and after. - **Community profile:** income, no-vehicle share and older-adult share versus the city. - **Nearest alternatives:** type and distance for each closed branch. - **Ask:** areas that now qualify as banking deserts, for CRA or council follow-up. - **Sources:** cite FDIC cert and record ids and Census tables. Say what could not be found.
