Bank counterparty check

Use when a treasury, finance or ops lead must decide whether to keep deposits or a credit line at a US bank. Reads the bank's call report trend, deposit concentration, the rate backdrop and any Federal Reserve enforcement actions, producing a counterparty note with a keep, cap or move recommendation.

# Bank counterparty check

For one FDIC-insured bank. The CERT number from step 1 keys the FDIC steps; the legal name keys the regulator search.

## 1. Identify the bank

1. Find the institution and its CERT with @[FDIC · Institutions](alexandria:banks-data-fdic-gov/bank-data/institutions) (name, state): note total assets, charter class and regulator.

## 2. Balance sheet health

2. Read eight quarters with @[FDIC · Financials](alexandria:banks-data-fdic-gov/bank-data/financials) (cert, from/to): total assets, equity capital to assets, noncurrent loans to loans, net income and total deposits. Flag falling capital or deposits two quarters running.
3. Read deposits by branch state with @[FDIC · Deposits](alexandria:banks-data-fdic-gov/bank-data/deposits) (cert, latest year) to see how concentrated the funding base is.

## 3. Rate pressure

4. Read @[FRED · Series observations](alexandria:fred/series/observations) for DGS10 and FEDFUNDS over the same eight quarters. Rising rates with a securities-heavy balance sheet raise unrealised loss risk.

## 4. Regulator record

5. Search @[Federal Reserve · Press releases](alexandria:federalreserve-gov/central-bank-communications/press_releases) (type Enforcement Actions, query the bank or its holding company) over three years, and read the order summary in each hit.
6. Search federal cases with @[CourtListener · Search dockets](alexandria:courtlistener-com/dockets/search_dockets) (party_name the bank) for the last two years.

## Write the note

- **Scorecard:** capital, asset quality, earnings and deposit trend, each rated stable, watch or weak.
- **Events:** enforcement actions and material cases, dated.
- **Recommendation:** keep, cap balances at the insured limit, or move, with the deciding facts.
- **Sources:** cite every figure to the capability and record it came from. Say what could not be found rather than guessing.
