Ex-US launch market screen

Use when a pharma or medtech market-access team is ranking countries for launch after US approval. Pulls WHO disease burden for the indication by country, checks which competitors already hold EU authorisation and US approval, and counts competing trials recruiting in each country, then ranks markets by burden, competition and trial crowding.

# Ex-US launch market screen

For one product and indication, across a candidate list of countries. Launch value rises with disease burden and falls with crowded competition and trial competition for the same patients.

## 1. Size the burden

1. Find the right indicator with @[WHO GHO · Indicators](alexandria:who-int/indicators/indicators) (for example prevalence or mortality for the condition). Keep the **indicator_code**.
2. Pull @[WHO GHO · Data](alexandria:who-int/indicators/data) with spatial_dim_type COUNTRY for the candidate countries, latest five years.

## 2. Map the competition

3. Search @[EMA · Medicines](alexandria:ema-europa-eu/records/medicines) by therapeutic area or the competitor substances: which are authorised in the EU, with dates and status.
4. Search @[FDA · Drug applications](alexandria:fda-gov/records/drug_applications) for the same competitors to see US approval dates; an EU gap after US approval hints at a slow EU route.

## 3. Measure trial crowding

5. Search @[ClinicalTrials.gov · Trial search](alexandria:clinicaltrials-gov/clinical-trials/search) by condition, recruiting status and country. Count trials per country and note sponsors that are direct competitors.

## Write the screen

- **Country table:** burden value and year, competitor approvals, recruiting trials, competitor sponsors.
- **Ranking:** top markets with a one-line reason each.
- **Risks:** countries with high burden but heavy trial crowding, which slows real-world uptake and site access.
- **Caveats:** WHO indicators may lag several years; EMA covers centralised authorisations only.
- **Sources:** cite indicator codes, EMA product numbers, application numbers and NCT ids. Say what could not be found.
