Measles resurgence early warning

Use when a public-health analyst, NGO programme lead or travel-health team needs to know where measles is likely to come back next. Finds countries whose MCV1 and MCV2 coverage has slipped, checks whether search interest and the literature already show outbreaks there, and returns a ranked watch list with the dated evidence.

# Measles resurgence early warning

For a region or a list of countries. Coverage data picks the candidates; every later step only looks at those.

## 1. Where protection is thinning

1. Find the measles first- and second-dose coverage codes with @[WHO GHO · Indicator search](alexandria:who-int/indicators/indicators) (query `measles`). Keep the MCV1 and MCV2 indicator codes.
2. Pull both indicators for the last ten years with @[WHO GHO · Indicator data](alexandria:who-int/indicators/data) (spatial_dim_type COUNTRY, your ISO3 list or a WHO region). For each country compute the drop from its ten-year peak and flag any country below 90% on MCV1 or falling three years running. Carry the flagged countries forward.

## 2. Is it already showing up

3. For each flagged country, run @[Trends · Interest over time](alexandria:firecrawl-trends/trends/interest_over_time) for `measles` (geo the country, past 12 months). A rising line often reflects local outbreak news or parents searching symptoms.
4. Search @[PubMed · PubMed search](alexandria:pubmed-ncbi-nlm-nih-gov/publications/search) for `measles AND <country> AND (outbreak OR surveillance)` sorted by date, last 24 months. Read the two most relevant abstracts with @[PubMed · Article](alexandria:pubmed-ncbi-nlm-nih-gov/publications/article) for case counts, affected ages and the stated cause (conflict, supply, hesitancy).

## 3. Who is exposed

5. For travel-linked spread, read each country's health section with @[State Department · Country information](alexandria:travel-state-gov/travel-advisories/country_information) and note whether measles or vaccination advice is mentioned.

## Write the watch list

- **Ranking:** country, MCV1 and MCV2 latest value and year, drop from peak, trend direction.
- **Signals:** search interest change and the dated outbreak reports behind each country.
- **Call:** watch, elevated or active, with the two strongest pieces of evidence.
- **Gaps:** countries where WHO coverage data is stale or missing.
- **Sources:** cite every figure to the capability and record it came from. Say what could not be found rather than guessing.
