# Foreign supplier ownership and sanctions screen

For one counterparty. Screening only the trading name misses the parent; this screens the whole chain.

## 1. Pin down the entity

1. Search @[GLEIF · Entity search](alexandria:gleif-org/entities/search) by legal name and country. Pick the candidate whose legal address matches the contract and keep its **LEI**.
2. Confirm it with @[GLEIF · Entity](alexandria:gleif-org/entities/entity): registration status, legal form, registered address.
3. Climb the chain with @[GLEIF · Ultimate parent](alexandria:gleif-org/entities/ultimate_parent). If a reporting exception is returned, record its reason; never treat it as "no parent".

## 2. Screen every name

4. Search each name from steps 2 and 3 with @[OpenSanctions · Search entities](alexandria:opensanctions-org/sanctions-screening/search_entities); open strong hits with @[OpenSanctions · Entity profile](alexandria:opensanctions-org/sanctions-screening/get_entity) for programs, topics (sanction, PEP, crime) and listing dates.
5. Run the same names and addresses through @[OFAC · OFAC search](alexandria:sanctionssearch-ofac-treas-gov/sanctions/search); note match score and program for anything above 90.

## 3. History in the US

6. Search @[CourtListener · Search dockets](alexandria:courtlistener-com/dockets/search_dockets) with each name as party_name for federal cases (fraud, export control, contract disputes).

## Write the memo

- **Chain:** entity, LEI, parent, ultimate parent, with any reporting exception.
- **Hits:** each list match with score, program and whether identifiers (address, ID numbers) confirm it.
- **Litigation:** relevant dockets with court and nature of suit.
- **Decision:** clear, escalate or block, and what would change it.
- **Sources:** cite every match to its entity id or docket id. State which names returned nothing.
