Grant need-statement data pack
Use when a nonprofit or local-government grant writer is drafting the statement of need for a federal grant application. Reads the opportunity's eligibility and priorities, pulls Census and BLS figures for the exact service area, and shows who in the state already received awards under the same assistance listing, so the narrative is specific and sourced.

# Grant need-statement data pack For one Grants.gov opportunity and one service area (county, city or tract set). Reviewers score need statements on local, current, cited numbers and on whether the applicant fills a gap others have not. ## 1. Read the opportunity 1. Find the notice with @[Grants.gov · Search](alexandria:grants-gov/opportunities/search) by keyword or opportunity_number. Open it with @[Grants.gov · Detail](alexandria:grants-gov/opportunities/detail): eligibility, award range, deadline, **assistance_listing_number** and the populations or outcomes it prioritises. Those priorities decide which numbers to pull. ## 2. Pull local need figures 2. Resolve the service area with @[Census · Geographies](alexandria:census-gov/census/geographies). 3. Pull ACS estimates with @[Census · Data](alexandria:census-gov/census/data) (acs/acs5, latest vintage) for the indicators the notice cares about, such as poverty rate, uninsured share, households without a vehicle or limited English. Pull the state values too for comparison. 4. Add @[BLS · Unemployment rate](alexandria:bls-gov/economic-statistics/bls_unemployment_rate) for the county and state over the last three years. ## 3. Show the funding gap 5. Search @[USAspending · Award search](alexandria:usaspending-gov/awards/award_search) with grant award_type_codes, the assistance listing as keyword and place_of_performance in the state. List prior recipients, amounts and their counties. ## Write the data pack - **Need table:** each indicator for the service area versus state, with dataset, vintage and margin of error. - **Labour context:** unemployment trend. - **Funding gap:** prior awards in the state, and whether the service area has received any. - **Draft sentences:** three need statements a writer can paste, each with its citation. - **Sources:** cite Census table ids, BLS series ids and award ids. Say what could not be found.
