Podcast test-buy plan from competitor footprints

Use when a brand that has never bought podcast ads wants a low-risk first test. Finds the brand's closest Meta competitors, reads which shows those competitors keep renewing on podcasts, screens the shortlist for brand safety and chart reach, and writes a first-flight plan with shows, read style and a vanity URL scheme.

# Podcast test-buy plan from competitor footprints

For one brand new to podcast ads. Shows that competitors renew are the best evidence a show converts for the category.

## 1. Who to copy

1. Resolve the brand with @[Upspring · Advertiser by domain](alexandria:upspring/advertisers/by-domain), then list look-alikes with @[Upspring · Similar advertisers](alexandria:upspring/advertisers/similar) (`limit=10`). Keep each competitor's **domain**.

## 2. Where they renew

2. For each competitor domain, run @[Particle · Shows a sponsor buys](alexandria:particle/advertising/sponsor/shows) (`id` = domain, `since` twelve months back). Keep shows where the competitor appears across many episodes or several months: that is a renewal, not a test.
3. Read how they buy with @[Particle · Ad reads of a sponsor](alexandria:particle/advertising/sponsor/segments) (`id` = domain, `limit=10`). The summaries carry read type (host read or produced) and the **vanity URL or code** each show uses.
4. Get fresh options with @[Particle · Shows a company could advertise on](alexandria:particle/advertising/company/prospects) (`id` = the brand's domain): shows that fit the brand but are not yet in any competitor's plan.

## 3. Screen the shortlist

5. Check each candidate with @[Particle · Show suitability assessment](alexandria:particle/suitability/show) and drop anything outside the brand's tolerance.
6. Size each with @[Particle · Chart presence summary](alexandria:particle/rankings/show/summary) for best rank and chart breadth, so the test mixes one larger show with smaller, cheaper ones.

## Write the plan

- **Shortlist:** six to eight shows, each tagged renewed by competitor, prospect, or both, with suitability tier and chart reach.
- **Flight:** a four to six week test, read style per show, and a vanity URL per show following the pattern competitors use.
- **Read to measure:** what to track and when to decide on renewal.
- **Sources:** cite each show to the capability and sponsor evidence. Say what could not be found, such as competitors with no podcast record.
