Product name clearance check
Use before a team commits to a new product, brand or app name. Checks live US trademarks for the word, which domains are free or for sale, whether the name is already taken in the App Store and as social handles, and what people already mean when they search it, then writes a clear, caution or kill call per name.

# Product name clearance check For three to five candidate names. This is a screening pass, not legal clearance; it tells the team which names deserve a lawyer's time. ## 1. Trademarks 1. Search each name with @[USPTO · Trademark search](alexandria:uspto-gov/intellectual-property/trademark_search) (`text` = name, `alive=true`). Note live marks, their owners and goods descriptions. Same word in an adjacent class is a caution; same word in the same class is a likely kill. 2. Read the status of anything close with @[USPTO · Trademark status](alexandria:uspto-gov/intellectual-property/trademark_status) (`serial_number`). ## 2. Domains 3. Run @[Namecheap · Search domains](alexandria:namecheap-com/domains/search_domains) (`query` = name, `tlds` = com, io, co, app, `include_aftermarket=true`). 4. Confirm the exact names the team would use with @[Namecheap · Check domains](alexandria:namecheap-com/domains/check_domains) (`include_pricing=true`), including get or try prefixes. ## 3. Collisions in the wild 5. Search the App Store with @[App Store · Search](alexandria:apps-apple-com/apps/search) (`term` = name, `country` = main market) for existing apps with the same or near name. 6. Check handles with @[Oriane · Search TikTok profiles](alexandria:oriane/tiktok/profiles-search) and @[Oriane · Search Instagram profiles](alexandria:oriane/instagram/profiles-search) (`handle` = name). Note follower counts of any existing owner. 7. See what the word already means to searchers with @[Trends · Suggestions](alexandria:firecrawl-trends/trends/suggestions) and @[Trends · Interest over time](alexandria:firecrawl-trends/trends/interest_over_time) (`keywords` = names, `time=today 5-y`). A name with heavy existing interest means paying to outrank someone else. ## Write the clearance table - **Per name:** trademark risk, best available domain and price, App Store and handle collisions, search ambiguity. - **Call:** clear, caution or kill, with the one reason that decides it. - **Next step:** which names go to counsel and which domains to buy now. - **Sources:** cite each finding to its capability. Say what could not be checked.
