Sync placement track shortlist

Use when a music supervisor needs licensable tracks for a scene set in a specific era, genre or place. Searches the record catalogue by style and year, traces original labels and reissues to find who controls the master, checks whether the track or artist is already overexposed in search, and reads the artist background for rights history.

# Sync placement track shortlist

For one scene brief (era, style, country, mood). Release and label ids from step 1 carry into rights tracing.

## 1. Candidate recordings

1. Search @[Discogs · Search](alexandria:discogs-com/releases/search) with style, year and country from the brief (type master) to list candidate recordings. Keep 10 to 15 masters with artist and title.
2. For each master, read @[Discogs · Master versions](alexandria:discogs-com/releases/master_versions) to see the original release, its label and later reissues. A recent reissue on a different label often means the master moved.

## 2. Who controls it

3. Read @[Discogs · Label](alexandria:discogs-com/releases/label) for the original and latest reissue labels: profile, parent label and sublabels. This is the first clearance contact for the master.
4. Read @[Wikipedia · Article](alexandria:wikipedia/articles/lookup) for each shortlisted artist to note catalogue sales, estate control or disputes that complicate clearance.

## 3. Freshness check

5. Compare up to five artists or track titles with @[Trends · Interest over time](alexandria:firecrawl-trends/trends/interest_over_time) over five years. A recent spike can mean another placement already used it.

## Write the shortlist

- **Shortlist:** track, artist, year, original label, latest label, likely master contact.
- **Clearance flags:** catalogue sold, estate, label defunct or unclear chain.
- **Exposure:** tracks with a recent search spike and why that matters for the scene.
- **Publishing:** say that songwriter and publisher shares are not in these sources and must be cleared separately.
- **Sources:** cite every figure to the capability and record it came from. Say what could not be found rather than guessing.
