# Offer salary benchmark

For one title in one US city. The normalised title and location from steps 1 and 2 are used in every later call.

## 1. Normalise

1. Map the title to the form ZipRecruiter knows with @[ZipRecruiter · Suggest titles](alexandria:ziprecruiter-com/jobs/suggest_titles).
2. Map the city to the City, ST form with @[ZipRecruiter · Suggest locations](alexandria:ziprecruiter-com/jobs/suggest_locations).

## 2. Market pay

3. Read percentiles for that title and city with @[ZipRecruiter · Salary](alexandria:ziprecruiter-com/jobs/salary).
4. Pull 30 days of live postings with @[ZipRecruiter · Search jobs](alexandria:ziprecruiter-com/jobs/search_jobs) (posted_within_days 30) and record each posted pay range. Note the median of posted ranges and how many postings show pay.

## 3. Official wages

5. Find the Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics series for the occupation and metro with @[BLS · Series search](alexandria:bls-gov/economic-statistics/bls_series_search) (survey oe).
6. Read the annual mean and percentile wage series with @[BLS · Series](alexandria:bls-gov/economic-statistics/bls_series). These lag by about a year.
7. Read CPIAUCSL with @[FRED · Series observations](alexandria:fred/series/observations) (units pc1) to age the BLS figures to today.

## Write the benchmark

- **Range:** recommended low, mid and high, and which source anchors each.
- **Evidence table:** source, figure, date and sample size.
- **Caveats:** title mismatches and posting pay that covers several levels.
- **Sources:** cite every figure to the capability and record it came from. Say what could not be found rather than guessing.
